ill be real those posts going around directed towards “younger people in fandom” about how its Okay To Enjoy Problematic Things In Fiction make me wildly uncomfortable bc ive seen 0 posts for younger fandom members about how older people will find you enjoying your “problematic faves” and will groom you into thinking these things Are okay in real life and put you in really dangerous situations

if an older fandom person comes to you talking about their Problematic Trash Ships or Gross Nasty Trash Kinks Ohoho dont talk to them, block them if they keep trying to talk to you after you’ve told them you’re uncomfortable

there’s no reason why they should be talking to you, a minor, one-on-one like that rather than other older people, and their Problematic™ shit like underaged pairings and incest and violent abusive ships are Not okay, there is no real world where you’ll go and talk to an adult and they’ll tell you you’re overreacting about an incestuous or pedophilic ship making you uncomfortable

dont talk to adults who make you feel like youre overreacting over things that make you uncomfortable

name one native american intellectual off the top of your head, name one native american actor or actress off the top of your head, name one native american senator, one native american news anchor, or an author or a tv personality or a singer or a poet or a comedian, name a single native american teacher you’ve had, can you? probably not

ok so now think of one native american cartoon character you know of or a sports team relating to native americans whether it’s their actual name or their team logo, or a town you live in or near with a “native” name bet a lot of these things came to you right away i bet you didn’t even have to think

needing native representation in media, education and government are not decoy issues, the commercialization and appropriation of native cultures are not decoy issues, the lack of native representation is institutional oppression at work

But they aren’t documented so they wouldn’t be pa…..nvm

This is a huge misconception for regular Americans. When the government uses the phrase “undocumented” they’re using it incorrectly because if they were truly undocumented then they would’ve be in system. However these immigrants are in the system and they pay taxes, file tax returns and get no benefits that citizens and legal residents get. They also get to see ICE showing up at their doors because the government has their addresses. Fun fact. “Undocumented” workers pays $12 billion dollars every year in taxes. https://www.google.com/amp/www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/10/06/how-much-tax-do-americas-undocumented-immigrants-actually-pay-infographic/amp/

UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS PAY FUCKING TAXES IN THIS COUNTRY.  PERIOD.  GET THE IDEA THAT THEY DON’T OUT OF YOUR HEAD.

South Asian people using their hand to eat rice is not something abnormal or gross.. It’s our tradition and it’s just as normal as East Asians using chopsticks.

Also if you think the hand is gross or not clean enough for us to pick our food but you think it’s clean enough for you to hold your pizza, burger then just letting you know you are fuckin hypocrite lol

lowkey don’t like how ppl are tagging this as unsanitary

I eat curry and rice with my hands and let me tell you…it’s a sacred technique

Americans eat food with our fingers all the fucking time. It’s ridiculous to call it unsanitary… unless your hands are dirty.

Guys it’s not rocket science

You just eat the food
With your hand?

Are your hands clean?
Then you’re fine.

it’s highkey racist tagging this as unsanitary.

everyone who tagged this with #unsanitary is a fuckin racist and is no longer ever allowed to eat anything with their bare hands ever again

Vote 👏🏼 in 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 2018 👏🏼 Midterm 👏🏼 Elections 👏🏼

SERIOUSLY

If you vote in Democrats, they’ll be able to block Trump’s policies

It’s not just that they’ll be able to block Drumpf’s policies for the (hopefully only) remaining two years: the entire House of Representatives is up for re-election in 2018. Whoever wins the House in 2018 will still control it in 2020, when we have our next census. This means we voting districts will get to be redrawn and if Republicans retain control of the House in 2020, they will make gerrymandering even worse than it is now, which already favors them.

But the odds are severely in favor of Republicans for 2018. The election is ridiculously lopsided: 23 Democrat seats and both (there are only 2) Independent seats (who Caucus with Dems) will be up for the taking compared to only 8 Republican seats. Not to mention midterm election turnout is always far less than POTUS elections and Republicans consistently turn out for midterms while non-Republicans fail to show up worse than they normally do.

It gets worse. This is the Senate race in 2018:

  1. Arizona - Currently Republican
  2. California - Currently Democrat
  3. Connecticut - Currently Democrat
  4. Delaware - Currently Democrat
  5. Florida - Currently Democrat
  6. Hawaii - Currently Democrat
  7. Indiana - Currently Democrat
  8. Maine - Currently Independent
  9. Maryland - Currently Democrat
  10. Massachusetts - Currently Democrat
  11. Michigan - Currently Democrat
  12. Minnesota - Currently Democrat
  13. Mississippi - Currently Republican
  14. Missouri - Currently Democrat
  15. Montana - Currently Democrat
  16. Nebraska - Currently Republican
  17. Nevada - Currently Republican
  18. New Jersey - Currently Democrat
  19. New Mexico - Currently Democrat
  20. New York - Currently Democrat
  21. North Dakota - Currently Democrat
  22. Ohio - Currently Democrat
  23. Pennsylvania - Currently Democrat
  24. Rhode Island - Currently Democrat
  25. Tennessee - Currently Republican
  26. Texas - Currently Republican
  27. Utah - Currently Republican
  28. Vermont - Currently Independent
  29. Virginia - Currently Democrat
  30. Washington - Currently Democrat
  31. West Virginia - Currently Democrat
  32. Wisconsin - Currently Democrat
  33. Wyoming - Currently Republican

All of the states in bold were awarded to Drumpf, 11 of which are currently held by Democrats. Republicans hold a 52 seat majority right now. If they can maintain the 8 seats they have to defend, they only need 8 Democrat and/or Independent seats to have a 60 seat supermajority and the power to pass basically anything they want under Trump for two years.

If you think it’s catastrophic now (and it is), imagine Drumpf and the Republicans with a 60 seat supermajority for two years plus a Republican House with the power to redistrict in 2020.

And that is why organizing now is critical. Getting people to run against every GOP House Member and tying every action by Trump to them. Make the 2018 elections ALL ABOUT TRUMP. This is also about taking back Governor’s Mansions.

It is NOT impossible, but it requires effort. 2018 elections efforts SHOULD ALREADY BE UNDERWAY!

Awesome

For all my deaf / mute LGBTQ followers or anyone trying to learn

This is such a great post! Deaf and hard of hearing people are members of our community, so let’s show them some love. You can learn ASL online using the resources in this post: http://mashable.com/2014/04/21/how-to-sign/#SdHJ06gZ1Zqy

I will never not reblog this. It’s so hard to come across this post and this ain’t something ASL class will teach you. Sign language is spectrum of widely used languages (they differ country to country) and you never know when you’re going to need it.

This Comedian Nails Why The Mental Illness + Creativity Connection is Ridiculous

I used to really worry that medications would harm my creativity and it’s part of why I resisted taking them. It hasn’t. If anything it’s allowed me to be more focused and able to complete things. My imagination hasn’t changed just because I’m on anti-depressants.

a lot of my family didnt want me to start medications because they thought it would impact my ability to create, and I believed them.

Now im getting better and better with my art because i dont have to fight through the brainfog or the constant panic attacks and can dedicate my energy to my work.

Antidepressents didnt take my emotions away, they made them easier to handle.

also Van Gogh was literally in an asylum receiving mental health treatment when he painted ‘Starry Night’.
It was one of the most stable & productive periods of his life, despite the fact that wasn’t hugely effective treatment, because they didn’t really have modern understandings of what things work on mental illness. Like, you know. Medication.

This is why we don’t romanticize mental illness or chronic disease.

ALSO because I am reading a book of his letters right now, Van Gogh himself addressed the idea that the best art came from pain and said that his art tended to suffer when his depression was hitting pretty hard. So don’t even pull that shit where you give his untreated depression credit for his art. Van Gogh would have hated that, and if antidepressants/better treatment of mental illness HAD existed then we might have even more of his work now.

“R*tarded” is not used as medical terminology specifically because the word has become a slur.

Nobody in the field, except for very old people (people who’ve been working in the field since the 1970′s/80′s and have yet to update their terminology) uses it anymore.

So don’t give me that “it’s a medical term” bullshit. It’s a slur and you’re using it as a way to ostracize and other dd/id individuals.

According to the DSM 5 (the latest version put out by the Psychological Association to diagnosis mental illnesses) officially changed mental retardation to intellectually disabled so it’s literally not the medically correct term either
